It's a brave new world when the South Korean car company Kia introduces a $60,000 luxury vehicle. However, luxury enthusiasts should consider moves being made by Kia's parent company Hyundai before dismissing the K900. This car is certainly a far cry from anything Kia has produced previously, but is it a better car for Patterson, NJ residents than the Lexus RC?
Kia K900 vs. Lexus RC: Exterior
It takes but a glance at the Kia K900 to realize this impressive sedan isn't the typical Kia. First off, the K900 is, by far, the largest sedan Kia has ever produced. If not for the prominent Kia emblems, this vehicle could easily pass for a swanky, European sedan. Standard features, such as rain sensing wipers and power folding mirrors, are like icing on the K900 cake.
The Lexus RC is one of the sleekest, sexiest vehicles ever manufactured by Lexus. Just the broad, extended grille on this coupe boasts of its performance-based design. This car shows off one of the most unique designs on the open road, but that's come to be expected from the Lexus brand. The Kia K900 could take the exterior comparison based solely on the shock factor associated with the sedan; however, the Lexus RC is just too perfectly designed not to win this comparison.
Kia K900 vs. Lexus RC: Interior
The Lexus RC is as attractive inside as it is outside, featuring a custom steering wheel and very high-quality materials. Unfortunately, it has a cramped backseat, as most sports coupes do. These seats are best reserved for extra cargo space because anyone over four feet tall will have to sit diagonally for long trips.
The Kia K900 benefits from its South Korean roots as it has many of the same standard features as the Hyundai Equus. The 17-speaker Lexicon stereo system is the same as that within the much more expensive Equus, and it may be the best stereo system available in any automobile. Like other Hyundais, this Kia is jam-packed with special features typically associated with far more expensive vehicles. Satellite radio, touch controls on the steering wheel, and auxilary audio jacks are all standard on the Kia K900. The sedan is also ideal for families, as five adults can ride comfortably for prolonged periods of time. The interior competition goes to the K900 for providing a more practical option for commuting families.
Kia K900 vs. Lexus RC: Driving Comparison
This comparison is a bit of a mismatch because the Lexus RC is designed to be driven hard. The RC is essentially a coupe version of the IS, and it shares the 5.0-liter V8 engine. Accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.7 seconds is great for entering the highway in Patterson, NJ, but the Kia K900 has a few surprises as well.
The Kia K900 is less performance-based than the Lexus RC, though it does wrap the driver and passengers in luxury. A quiet, peaceful ride will make people forget they're inside a Kia. The K900 also borrows the 420-horsepower V8 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission from the Equus. There may be no better value on the market in the luxury department.
It's tough to determine a driving winner because the cars are designed for different purposes. However, when the Kia's larger interior is taken into consideration, it's a better value than the $72,000 Lexus RC. Jack Daniels Kia is the ideal location to test drive a Kia K900; their selection can't be beat. Anyone on the market for a new Kia should make Jack Daniels their first stop.
