The Kia Optima and the Honda Accord both offer a wide range of features for budget-minded auto buyers in Patterson, NJ. However, the Honda Accord is priced considerably higher than the Optima, and many of its best features don't come standard on the base LX model. The Kia Optima makes most of its best features standard, including exterior chrome accents and push button start. If you want the best value for your money, then the Kia Optima is simply the best choice in its class.
Performance
First let's take a look under the hood. The 2015 Kia Optima comes standard with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that gets a whopping 192 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. The Honda Accord has a similar four-cylinder engine but significantly less horsepower. Even the Honda Accord Sport model only has 189 horsepower. The Kia Optima SX Turbo and LX models up the ante with their turbo-charged four-cylinder powertrains. The SX Turbo and the LX both can match speed and power with the Honda Accord V6 models, the EXL and Touring. When it comes to fuel economy, the Kia Optima can easily match mileage with the Honda Accord. Both mid-sized sedans average about 23 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway.
Design Elements
The 2014 Kia Optima already has some attractive design elements, but the new 2015 Kia Optima features sharp new details from the inside out. Even the base LX model is sure to turn heads with chrome door handles, chrome grille, and mirror-mounted LED turn signals. Inside the cab you've got MP3 audio, keyless entry, and push button start. Jump up to the Limited model, and you'll find heated, Nappa leather seats and 18-inch chrome finish wheels. The Honda Accord LX doesn't have a smart entry system or push button start; however, it does have chrome door handles and accents. You really have to opt for the EX models or higher if you want to see luxury-level design elements. Then you get to enjoy some impressive features such as dual exhaust and the power moon roof ceiling.
Safety First
The Kia Optima has an impressive array of safety features. It has dual front and side curtain airbags in every model. It also comes standard with front and rear crumple zones to minimize the force of collision impacts as well as specially designed side impact door beams. The Honda Accord sedan is an IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) top safety pick, but only when equipped with the optional Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system. That added feature raises the price of the Accord sedan considerably.
Both the Kia Optima and the Honda Accord have Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), a mounting system for child safety seats. The 2014 Honda Accord has some limited traction control features but can't match the Kia Optima's range on stability. The Optima has Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Hill Start Assist Control, and Electronic Stability Control systems standard on every model.
